The State Duma supported the idea to revoke citizenship for the sale of surrogate alcohol

On Wednesday, February 2, State Duma deputy Sultan Khamzaev supported the initiative to expel surrogate alcohol dealers from Russia and deprive them of their previously obtained Russian citizenship.

“I consider it a reasonable initiative aimed at protecting the health of citizens. I have repeatedly advocated and will continue to advocate such actions against those who poison and kill our citizens today,” he said in an interview with the 360 TV channel.

The parliamentarian also noted that alcohol, especially surrogate alcohol, often causes bad situations, is a factor in social tension – it increases mortality, crime, and the number of domestic conflicts.

According to Khamzaev, such an initiative may not appeal to everyone who works in the alcohol business, but it will help bring order to the difficult segment of alcohol market regulation.

Earlier this day, Sergei Ryabukhin, First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Budget and Financial Markets, announced the senators’ plans to amend the second reading of the presidential bill “On Citizenship of the Russian Federation”, providing for the withdrawal of Russian citizenship from persons who previously received it and their deportation to their homeland for illegal production or turnover of surrogate alcohol, NSN reports.

According to him, persons who are engaged in the production and circulation of surrogate alcohol in the territories of garages and industrial zones are foreign citizens from neighboring countries in 75% of cases.

Ryabukhin added that the amendments would be submitted to the State Duma if they were approved by the Interior Ministry, so he made a corresponding request to Russian Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev.

Earlier, on January 5, Aleksey Lodyagin, head of the Department of Clinical Toxicology at the Janelidze Research Institute for Emergency Medicine, said that in order to avoid buying surrogate alcohol, alcohol should be purchased in trusted stores, and it is also necessary to check for an excise stamp, Zvezda TV channel reports.

Last year, cases of mass poisoning with surrogate alcohol took place in different regions of the Russian Federation.

The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation opened a criminal case under Part 3 of Art. 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Sale of goods and products that do not meet the requirements of the safety of life or health of consumers, resulting in the death of two or more persons through negligence.”
