Election campaign: Protests for the CDU party conference – around 700 police officers on site

With around 700 emergency services in Berlin, the police secure the CDU party conference, which is accompanied by several demonstrations. These were predominantly against the joint coordination of the Union and AfD in the Bundestag last week.

The organizers spoke of “several hundred people”. Among other things, participants kept up large letters that formed the word “shame”.

“We do not allow this pressure,” said climate activist Carla Reemtsma, co -organizer of the protests. It is not allowed that a party that calls itself a “middle party” does a common cause with a party “which is in part right-wing extremist and fascist”. Demonstrating called “Shame on You CDU” (“Asham you up CDU”). On Wednesday in the Bundestag, the CDU and CSU only enforced an application to tighten migration policy with the help of the AfD.

A propeller machine flew over the event location with a banner with the inscription “CDU Unchristlich”. With the warning in the sky, the Ecumenical Federal Working Group on Asylum in the church sent a message to the CDU federal party conference, the organization said. However, the reminder not only straightens up to the CDU, but also calls on all parties to “work for a human rights-based migration and refugee policy,” it said.

Opposite the hall stood on an LED canvas “Mitte-statt-Merz.de”. It was an action by the SPD. The venue was cordoned off and secured with a fence. There was traffic jams on surrounding streets.

About a dozen demonstrations for the party congress

At its election party conference, the CDU wants to adopt a “immediate program” with the migration plans of Union Chancellor candidate Friedrich Merz. The paper contains Merz’s five-point plan, which provides for rejections to the limits and permanent border controls.
