CDU member of the Bundestag Erwin Rüddel is dead
The CDU health politician Erwin Rüddel has died. Just a few days ago, he had said goodbye to the Bundestag after around 15 years.
The long-time Rhineland-Palatinate CDU member of the Bundestag Erwin Rüddel died at the age of 69. CDU boss Friedrich Merz told the delegates of the election party in Berlin that Rüddel died suddenly and unexpectedly this morning.
He did not run for the Bundestag again, but wanted to participate in the party conference. Rüddel put his life in the service of politics and in particular the CDU.
CDU state chief Gordon Schnieder and his brother Patrick, chairman of the CDU state group in the Bundestag, were shocked by Rüddel’s sudden death.
The CDU Rhineland-Palatinate loses a proven health politician, said Gordon Schnieder. For many years, the business economist has fought for a modern healthcare system and safe patient care, especially in rural regions.

Rüddel had only retired from the Bundestag this week. He has represented his home, the Neuwied constituency, in Berlin for 15 years and previously in the Mainz state parliament (1998 to 2009).
Patrick Schnieder said: “We lose a respected and valued colleague and a person we could always rely on.”
The former managing director of a senior residence was a rapporteur of his faction for nursing policy and later chairman of the health committee in the Bundestag. His political focus has been on digitization in healthcare since 2022.
The Catholic Rüddel comes from Bonn and was also active in the carnival. He lived with his family in the Westerwalddorf Hüngsberg.
