Systematically controls have been made at all German borders since mid -September. The number of unauthorized entry is declining.

In the 140 days since the beginning of the systematic controls at all German borders, the federal police have found 22,243 unauthorized entry. 13,786 people without the necessary papers were rejected or pushed back at the borders, means in a balance sheet. According to the information, officials also arrested 518 smugglers. 3,300 open arrest warrants were carried out as “by -catch”. 396 people from the extremist or Islamist spectrum were discovered.

The entry numbers are decreasing: In January 2025, 5,147 unauthorized entry were registered. In January 2024 there were 6,906, 7,588 in January 2023. For the year 2024, the federal police stated the number of unauthorized entry with 83,572. In 2023 it was 127,549, the year before 91,986. According to the federal police, there have been 365,891 unauthorized entry since 2021.

Since September 16, it has been checked at all German land borders at border crossings. That day, the systematic controls at the borders to France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg and Denmark began. At the other land borders to Poland, the Czech Republic, Austria and Switzerland, systematically control has been carried out for a long time. This is actually not intended in the Schengen area and only permitted for a limited period. The political goal is to limit irregular migration.
