The FDP advertises in the dispute over the control of immigration for an agreement shortly before the end of the election period. Clear approval initially only comes from the Union.

The FDP’s proposal for the agreement of the former traffic light parties and the Union in migration policy before the Bundestag election has come across mixed reactions. According to its own statements, the Union is ready to respond to the compromise proposal of the liberals. In contrast, the parliamentary managing director of the Greens parliamentary group, Irene Mihalic, said that she could “not see any serious offerings”.

According to parliamentary group leader Rolf Mützenich, the SPD is ready to find pragmatic solutions. “We welcome it that you are now striving for a common solution in migration policy after you had rejected our offer of discussions in the Bundestag together with the CDU/CSU and AfD on Friday,” wrote Mützenich after the latest advance of the FDP to its parliamentary group leader Christian Dürr. The letter is available to the German Press Agency. However, this does not show whether the SPD faction specifically accepts the FDP’s offer.

FDP wants an agreement with a package solution

The FDP had proposed to transfer the content of the “inflow limitation law” that failed on Friday in a bill to implement the reform of the joint European asylum system (GEAS) in German law.

“The Union will not block any conversations that contribute to the quick solution to the migration crisis,” said the parliamentary managing director of the parliamentary group, Thorsten Frei (CDU), the German Press Agency.

Frei said his faction was ready to talk about the implementation of the GEAS reform. However, it is crucial that “all possibilities are used to limit illegal immigration that the new European law offers”. So far, however, this does not seem to be the case, especially with a view to reducing performance. Time pressure does not exist in the implementation of this European reform, since the old law applies until mid -2026 anyway.

CDU boss Friedrich Merz-Chancellor candidate of the Union-had previously caused outrage because he accepted in the Bundestag on Wednesday that his five-point plan for migration policy only received a majority thanks to AfD votes. However, this decision does not have a binding effect.

Announced further protests on the streets

The unprecedented process had driven hundreds of thousands of people nationwide to demonstrations against right -wing extremism. The organizers want to maintain their pressure. “The wave of protests will stop until the Bundestag election,” said the board member of the Campact campaign alliance, Christoph Bautz to the Editorial Network Germany (RND).

In the letter from Dürr it says: “If we don’t want populists and radicals to end up in the end as the winner, we now have to show that we are able to go from the middle of solutions.” The FDP parliamentary group leader told the dpa: “Union, Greens and SPD now have the chance to prove that they are serious and actually want to implement a different migration policy.”

According to Merz, the Union’s Bundestag votes from the Union with the AfD should not be repeated. At RTL/NTV, Merz said that this situation was only created because there was no longer a majority of government in the Bundestag. “As soon as we have a majority of government, such a situation will no longer face it anyway. That was an exception last week,” said the CDU leader. At the party congress, he emphasized with a view to the AfD: “There is no collaboration, there is no tolerance, there is no minority government, nothing at all.”
