Habeck’s “security offensive” triggers outrage

The Greens’ candidate for Chancellor speaks to migration. Young Greens react harsh. The party stands behind Habeck – in a remarkable form.
Suggestions from Greens Chancellor candidate Robert Habeck for tightening in migration policy have triggered violent reactions in their own ranks. The Green Youth Lower Saxony was tough on social media, and his advance triggered outrage. The Federal Party reacted to the debate.
Harsh words from the green youth of Lower Saxony
“Word break instead of word” is in the parody of a Green Election postman with Habeck, which the state association of traditionally left-wing youth organization spread on social media. “Habeck or Merz, where is the difference?” In another tile, Habeck is “a misanthropic deportation policy that is based on right -wing narratives”. A corresponding Instagram post was deleted, and the pictures were still visible on Facebook on Tuesday evening. The “picture” had previously reported about it.
The state leadership of the Greens and the two top candidates there were clearly distant. “The commentary of the Green Youth Lower Saxony does not correspond to our attitude. We consider the choice of words and content to be unacceptable,” they told the German Press Agency. Habeck’s suggestions would have to be discussed factually.
Habeck’s “security offensive”
Habeck had launched a “security offensive” in the “Bild” newspaper on Monday – just in time for the CDU party conference. In the 10-point plan, which he had largely presented in an Instagram contribution last week, he campaigns for more deportations. The party also sent the paper the same day. In it, with a view to open arrest warrants, Habeck demands an “enforcement offensive with a focus on Islamists and other extremists”. And: “Non German dangers and serious criminals have to be pushed consistently.”
That triggered unrest. Under an Instagram post by Greens boss Franziska Brantner, where she transported points of the plan, it hailed angry and horrified comments about which the “picture” also reported. The post is no longer online.
A greener from the left wing believes that the resistance was less inflamed with the content of Habeck’s plan, some of which can also be found in the party program. Rather, it is about the time of Habeck’s push in the “picture”. After the great demonstrations against a shift to the right, such a step set the wrong priorities. “It does not need Friedrich Merz’s asylum seeker now, but towards more humanity,” said the party member, who did not want to be mentioned by name.
The party expressly confirmed the catalog of demands on Tuesday. She put the paper on her website and pointed it out via X-Post. “It was important to us to present the topic in the necessary complexity, so we published the detailed text on the homepage,” said a spokeswoman. However, the shape that can be seen in response to outrage is interesting.
In a version sent to journalists on Monday, the plan was still initiated by sentences such as it: “The security authorities need the personnel, technology and powers to find violent offenders and terrorists in good time and to uncover the plans. that further reduce and limit irregular migration. “
It reads differently on the Green side. There, the Greens present a delimitation to the Union Chancellor candidate and CDU boss Merz, who “did a common cause with the right-wing extremists in the Bundestag”. Regarding refugees, it says: “We stand by this humanitarian obligation.”
Greens boss: needs debate about security policy
Party leader Franziska Brantner said the dpa to Habeck’s plan: “Our candidate for chancellor Robert Habeck has made suggestions on how we tackle pressing security problems. He shows that we Greens are ready for constructive conversations in the political center.” She warned of a “factual cooperation with the right -wing extremists”. Union Chancellor candidate Friedrich Merz (CDU) had made suggestions in the Bundestag last week, for which a majority were only conceivable with votes from the AfD. An application was passed, a law failed.
Co-party leader Felix Banaszak said: “No matter if you migrated or born here, we all unite the desire for a life in safety. Many people are scared when refugees or people with migration history are treated as a problem in the current debate and the Union die Fire wall to tear in partly right -wing extremist AfD. ” But according to the actions of Solingen, Magdeburg and Aschaffenburg, a serious debate about consequences in security policy is also needed.
The excitement around the Habeck paper shows a pain point of the Greens. Although the party rightly refers to tightening in asylum and internal security that it has supported – but always with recognizable struggles. The Realo Habeck can do little with some scruples, it aims at the middle of society, also on the former Merkel voters disappointed by Merz. But if you want Habeck, you have to choose the Greens. No matter how small the party logo looks on his posters.
