Anti -Semitism: Number of anti -Jewish crimes also high in 2024

According to preliminary statistics, the number of anti -Semitic crimes remained at a high level in 2024. This is the result of a response from the Federal Ministry of the Interior (BMI) at a request from the left-wing MP Petra Pau in the Bundestag. The “Rheinische Post” reported on this. According to this, the police initially registered 5,177 crimes in 2024, in which an anti -Semitic motive is suspected. The preliminary figures are likely to rise a bit due to late registrations in the fourth quarter. For the time being, the number for the months of October, November and December is 671.

The left-wing politician and Bundestag Vice President Pau described the numbers as alarming. “They show that the high level of anti -Semitic incidents from 2023 continued.” Pau has been asking the numbers regularly for years.

After the terrorist attack of Hamas on Israel in October 2023 and the war in the Palestinian Gaza strip, hatred against Jews increased significantly. In 2022, the number of anti -Semitic offenses recorded was still 2,641 crimes – in 2023, according to the current figures of the BMI, 5,671 nationwide were more than twice as many.

According to the preliminary numbers without late registrations, most of the registered crimes are part of the “politically motivated crime on the right” division. A total of 1,165 are assigned here – including 29 acts of violence. “This clearly shows that anti -Semitic ideologies are still deeply anchored in right -wing extremist structures and increase in a threatening way,” said Pau.

According to the Ministry, another 926 crimes belong to the “Foreign Ideology” division, including 29 acts of violence. Statistics have 43 crimes for the left spectrum, four of them. Other categories of motivation are “religious ideology” (337) and “not to be assigned” (210 cases). The assignments do not include the late registrations from the individual quarters.
