Security authorities see Russia behind auto-sabotage series

The experts are convinced that Russia wants to fuel social division in Germany. Existing conflicts – such as the dispute over traffic and the climate crisis – are to be reinforced.

The police suspect that a series of sabotage files against cars in several federal states from Moscow have been controlled. After initial investigations, it can be assumed that the Saboteurs had received money from a Russian client for their actions, it was said from security circles. First, the “mirror” had reported on the results of the investigation. Accordingly, it is about more than 270 vehicles in Berlin, Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria and Brandenburg.

According to the “Spiegel” report, a police patrol in Schönefeld in Brandenburg had noticed a van with three young men in December 2024 who had several cartridges with a building foam, as used for sealing window and door frames. Shortly after the check, advertisements were received by car owners. With a total of 43 vehicles, the exhaust pipe with building foam was clogged. At the scene of the crime, there were snippets of paper with slogans that should point to the Greens – possibly an attempt to present the act as an action of radical climate activists.

Ulm public prosecutor knows four suspects

According to its own statements, the public prosecutor’s office in Ulm now has four suspects. There are a total of 123 property damage, said a spokesman. The four men are 17, 18, 20 and 29 years old. According to their identity papers, it is a German, a Serbs, a Romanian and a citizen of Bosnia-Herzegovinas. The investigators in Baden-Württemberg initially assumed three suspects in December. The people from the Ulm area and other evidence were confiscated, as the investigators reported.

In the case of housing searches in Ulm, the Alb-Donau district and in the district of Günzburg in the presence of the alleged suspects, several cans and other evidence were confiscated. The young men made only a few information when interrogated, as the police continued to say at the time. The trio was released after the police measures have been completed. So far, the Federal Ministry of the Interior has not had any concrete references to Russian clients, the investigation continued, a spokesman for the ministry said. According to “Spiegel” information, the suspects are said to have been recruited by chat.

“For months, espionage and sabotage have been trying to fuel uncertainty, heat up existing conflicts and divide us as a company,” commented the Green Interior politician Konstantin von Notz, the Sabotage series.

Green Chancellor candidate Robert Habeck warned that Russia attempts to assert his influence against his party in the Bundestag election. “The last thing Putin wants is that we are successful in the next Bundestag election or become part of the government or even lead them. Nevertheless, this is another warning signal to everyone that we have to take what is being driven here and we must be careful with the assessment, “said Habeck RTL/NTV.

The protection of the constitution has been a tendency for Russian actors, perpetrators- partly from the petty criminal milieu- for months, which are carrying out espionage and sabotage campaigns for money. According to German security authorities, one reason for this development is that the use of professional spies for Russia through sanctions and increased vigilance of western intelligence services is difficult.

Examples of those actions in which a social conflict was to be fired on behalf of Russia were also the attachment of David stars on houses in Paris and a color attack on a Holocaust memorial in the French capital.
