The former Chancellor and former CDU chairman Angela Merkel criticizes the Union Chancellor candidate Friedrich Merz because of the asylum vote in the Bundestag with votes from the AfD. In a just published explanation, Merkel emphasizes that she thinks the position of CDU boss Merz from November is right that majorities should only be searched with parties in the middle. “This proposal and the attitude associated with it were an expression of great state -political responsibility that I fully support,” explains Merkel. However, it adds: “I think it is wrong not to feel bound to this proposal and thereby for the first time on January 29, 2025 to enable a majority with the votes of the AfD for the first time in a coordination in the German Bundestag.”
