Judge stops Donald Trump’s severance payment program

Donald Trump wants to get rid of employees who are not on line. But the judiciary pushes a stop to his attempt to move the staff to terminate.

US President Donald Trump’s plan to push federal employees on a large scale for termination encounters legal resistance. For the time being, a federal judge has suspended a deadline, according to which federal employees had to decide until this Thursday whether they accept the government’s offer, as several US media reported. The judge therefore started a new hearing for Monday. Richter George O’Toole said that the program was suspended until the hearing is concluded.

Almost all of the ministries and authorities’ employees received an email last week. It describes that in the future there is another course in the government, according to which loyalty, more performance and strict work in the office are required. If you do not want to go this way, you can terminate and be fully paid for by the end of September – regardless of the actual workload – and then resign. If you want to accept the offer, you have to quit until this Thursday, it said.

Donald Trump’s spokeswoman: two million officials are possible for severance payments

Trump’s spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said that 40,000 employees had previously accepted the offer. She assumes that the number will increase. In total, a good two million employees are eligible for the program. “We encourage the federal employees in this city to accept the very generous offer,” said Leavitt. “We will find highly competent people who want to fill these jobs.”

Trump had started turning the state apparatus off immediately after taking office. The focus is on a decree, according to which federal employees should be classified as “political” employees in the future – and can be fired more easily. Trump’s team is likely to focus on the impression of the impending job loss of termination from their own pieces.
