After the storm of his supporters on the US capitol, Donald Trump was banished by online platforms. He went to court – and now as president received money from the second company.
According to a media report, Elon Musk’s online platform X pays US President Donald Trump $ 10 million after his complaint against the blocking of his account at the forerunner service Twitter 2021.
The “Wall Street Journal” reported on payment citing informed people. Court documents were initially not published.
At the end of January, the Facebook group had already paid meta $ 25 million to Trump to get a similar lawsuit out of the world. After the storm of his followers, the online platforms had locked out the captain in Washington in January 2021.
Returning an appeal
So Trump went to court. Twitter prevailed in the first instance. Finally, an appeal procedure ran – and in a hearing in autumn 2023, the arguments on the Trump side also met the judges there. At the beginning of this week, however, the application for appeal was withdrawn, as can be seen from court documents.
In January 2021, Trump’s supporters interrupted a session of the US parliament, in which Joe Biden and Trump’s election was defeated in the presidential election. Trump had previously stare at his followers when he was performed with the false claims that the election had been stolen by massive election fraud. During the attack, he initially refrained from calling the attackers from the Capitol to retreat.
Musk unlocked Trump again on Twitter
The online platforms justified the lock with the risk of calls for violence. Meta initially blocked Trump for two years, but Twitter, on the other hand, emphasized his own rules that his return to the platform was not possible.
But when Musk bought Twitter for around $ 44 billion in autumn 2022, he unlocked Trump’s account again. Meta raised the lock again after two years in January 2023.
Musk put more than $ 250 million in Trump’s election campaign last year and became one of his closest confidants. Trump gave him the order to shorten the government expenditure.
