A year ago Alexej Nawalny died in a prison cell in the Arctic. Pictures of the photographer Evgeny Feldman, who accompanied him for a long time, show above all: Courage.
Vladimir Putin apparently had his most powerful opponent killed a year ago: According to reports, Nawalnyj should have been exchanged in the West in those days. Why the prisoner exchange only planned why Nawalny was then murdered so brutally can only be speculated. It is also unclear how Nawalny died in his prison cell: Leave documents suggest that the charismatic politician was poisoned a second time. Nawalny 2020 had survived a first poison attack with the Novichok nerve poison Novichok.
Despite repression, thousands came to Nawalny’s funeral in Moscow. Since then, however, there has been dead silence again in the Russian capital, and the authorities are suppressing every protest. The Russian photographer Evgeny Feldman accompanied Nawalny for years. Today he lives in exile. His pictures are reminiscent of a charismatic politician who paid his courage with life. They also remind you of a time when Nawalny gave people hope for another Russia.
