The new US foreign minister and Israel’s head of government demonstrate after a meeting in Jerusalem unity in the big issues. He has a “common strategy” with Trump, said Netanyahu.
During his visit to Israel, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio emphasized that Islamist Hamas should not remain the prevailing force in the Gaza Strip. As long as the Hamas Israel could threaten to “make peace impossible,” said Rubio after a meeting with the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem. The terrorist organization must be destroyed.
Netanyahu and Rubio unanimously confirmed that Iran should not develop and own nuclear weapons. Tehran is “behind everything that threatens peace and stability (in the region),” said the US foreign minister. Both also called for a disarmament of the Lebanese Shiite militia Hisbollah. At the same time, Netanyahu emphasized that Israel was hired in Lebanon.
For the future of the Gaza Strip, US President Donald Trump has very “brave plans,” said Rubio. There is no point in “repeating the tired old ideas”. Netanyahu said Trump was “the best friend that Israel has ever had in the White House”. He works “in full cooperation” with him that there is a common strategy.
Before his trip, Rubio had asked the Arab states to make his own proposals regarding the future of the Gaza Strip after US President Donald Trump caused unrest with his plan to relocate around two million residents to Arab countries. According to Trump’s idea, the devastated Gaza Strip under control of the United States is to be transformed into a “Riviera of the Middle East”.
