Emergency workers in the rubble of a building in northern Syria on Thursday. A leader of the extremist group Islamic State was killed here this week during a deployment by US special troops. According to US President Joe Biden, Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Kuraishi detonated an explosive device, killing himself and members of his family, including women and children. The detonation was so strong that bodies were thrown out of the building, it said. Biden was briefed on the preparations for the mission over a month ago and gave the green light on Tuesday morning. Al-Qurayshi has led ISIS since 2019. Most recently, the IS, which was defeated in Syria three years ago, made a name for itself primarily through attacks in Iraq, but also in Syria. At least 13 people were killed in the attack on the house near the Turkish border. This was announced by employees of a Syrian rescue service.
