Should the drinking water system of the frigate Hessen be specifically contaminated with old oil? The authorities are suspected. It would not be the first interference action.
Authorities examine a possible further sabotage infestation against a warship of the German Navy. A “possible security -relevant incident” was found in the Marinearsenal Wilhelmshaven, said a spokesman for the operational management command in Berlin. “There is currently the” Hessen “frigate, which goes through a planned repair.” The spokesman did not provide any further information.
The research network from WDR, NDR and “Süddeutscher Zeitung” previously reported that it was about the contamination of the frigate’s drinking water system. According to this information, there is suspicion that it may have been tried to contaminate the frigate’s drinking water system with dozens of liters of old oil.
Old oil discovered in the rinsing system
The circumstances of the incident are currently being examined by military and civilian investigative authorities. According to information from the German Press Agency, soldiers had involved the military police (“Feldjäger”) on Thursday evening, after around 50 liters of old oil were noticed in the flushing system of a civilian contractor’s suction truck and there was a functional disorder.
Recently there were at least two concrete cases of suspicion of sabotage against ships. In the case of the “Emden” corvette still under construction, the investigation is determined and in a case in which cable harnesses were cut to a mine hunting boat.
