New name, new protests: “Last generation” puts on your past
Everything is new to the “last generation”: The climate protest group has long ended its street blocks, now it continues with a new name and in a different form.
The protest group “Last generation” is now called “new generation”. This said the member Raphael Thelen the “Spiegel”. In the future, the group will no longer only work for climate protection, but for democracy.
Last generation split up
“We need a new generation of democracy,” said Thelen. A “parliament of people” should develop solutions. In May it should start on the meadow before the Bundestag, later also at the local level all over Germany. The members of the citizens’ council-like meetings should be drawn.
In addition, a second splinter group from the “last generation” should be created, the resistance collective, said Thelen. “The group mainly relies on direct actions against destruction and injustice.”
The “Last generation” group emerged after a hunger for climate in Berlin and, from 2022, caused a sensation nationwide with blockade actions. At the beginning of 2024, the group announced a change of strategy, a few months later the name change.
