Charges against alleged assassins of Solingen

At a city festival in Solingen, a man kills three people with a knife. The suspect is said to have been an IS member. The federal prosecutor has now taken to court.

The Federal Prosecutor has charged the alleged assassin from the Solingen city festival, among other things, because of triple murder and ten times attempted murder. He is laid out of low motives and in twelve cases. The Karlsruhe authority also accuses the Syrian membership in the terrorist association of Islamic State (IS).

The State Protection Senate of the Düsseldorf Higher Regional Court must decide whether to allow the indictment. In the next step, he would then set appointments for a main hearing.

Is a complained attack for itself

In the attack on the evening of August 23, 2024, the attacker at the event for the city’s 650th anniversary called “Festival of Diversity” killed three people with a knife and injured ten more according to the authority. The suspected assassin is the then 26-year-old Issa al H. He has been in custody since then.

“In August 2024, he contacted an unknown IS member in August 2024,” the announcement said. “This encouraged the accused in his project and assured him that IS will take responsibility for the crime and use it for his propaganda.” In fact, IS complained to the attack.

The Federal Prosecutor’s Office as the Supreme Administration in Germany announced in August that the suspect had radical Islamist beliefs. Because of this, he wanted to kill the large number of unbelievers at the city festival. The accused repeatedly stabbed the festival with a knife back and specifically on the neck and upper body area.

Issa Al H. should have been deported to Bulgaria as early as 2023. When he was to be picked up from the refugee accommodation, he was not to be found. Another return attempt was not made.

The attack had fired the political discussion about deportations and internal security. An investigation committee in the Düsseldorf state parliament deals, among other things, with the question of why HS, which was scheduled long before the crime, failed to Bulgaria.
