Corona pandemic: compulsory vaccination in Austria now in force

In Germany, the compulsory corona vaccination is still being discussed intensively. Austria has now introduced this.

In Austria, a general corona vaccination against the corona virus has been in force since Saturday. With the publication in the Federal Law Gazette, the regulation – one of the strictest in Europe – now came into force.

Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen had previously signed the “Federal law on the obligation to vaccinate against COVID-19” after it had been approved by Parliament. In Germany, too, compulsory vaccination has been discussed for weeks.

The obligation to vaccinate in the neighboring country applies to everyone over the age of 18 residing in Austria. There are exceptions for pregnant women and for people who cannot be vaccinated for health reasons, as well as for those who have recovered. Violations can result in penalties of up to 600 euros in a shortened procedure, and then up to 3600 euros in the end. There should be no penalties until mid-March. Only then will samples be checked.
