In Syria too, they are celebrated, raved, especially after the fall of the dictator Assad. Photographer Vedad Divović documents the wild departure.
Actually, other pictures from Syria are known: those of bombed apartment blocks, of dark torture chambers, and masoned mothers. Of destroyed ancient cities, IS fighters and Russian air strikes. Sorry in 16: 9 format. Vedad Divović wants to show another Syria. After the fall of the Dictator Bashar al-Assad in December 2024, the Hamburg photographer made his way to the former civil war country.
Divović accompanied young Syrians for several weeks – while dreaming and night swect, in clubs and on the street. The result was the photo album of a generation that no longer stunned with alcohol and drugs to forget the horrors, but rather to celebrate their freshly obtained freedom. And yet she keeps catching up with the reality of everyday life.
