After arriving in London, Ukrainian President Wolodymyr Selenskyj is a guest to friends. The contrast to the hours before in Washington could hardly be greater.
Wolodymyr Selenskyj sat in a white, cozy armchair in front of the fireplace and smiled. “Many, thank you,” Keir, “said the Ukrainian president as British Prime Minister Keir Strandmer, and it looked as if he wanted to hug his host again as when he arrived on the 10 Downing Street. Less than 24 hours after the unprecedented dusting with US President Donald Trump in the White House, Selenskyj was suddenly a guest with friends.
The contrast that the Ukrainian experienced could hardly have been greater. On Sunday there was a reception at the British King Charles III. planned. Previously previously assured him of unshakable support, sealed by another contract for a billion dollar loan to defend the attack against Russia. On Friday, Selenskyj was covered with allegations. One was that he risked a third World War.
The question of the suit
At the greeting with a string in front of the famous black door in the heart of London, people cheering for Ukraine could be heard. Selenskyj was wearing his dark sweater again. He stayed with the style with which he has been traveling around the world three years ago since the Russian attack and asks for support.
He was received by Trump on Friday at the door of the White House with the words: “You’re all dressed up today.” Selenskyj has dressed up quite a bit. That was not a compliment. Selenskyj’s Chancellor Andrij Jermak has been recovering for Trump for the first time for the first time.
The question of a reporter connected afterwards in the Oval Office, whether Selenskyj had no suit, went around the world in short internet clips at the weekend. Selenskyj’s answer initially looked sovereign. If the war is over, he will wear a suit again, perhaps a more expensive than the journalist, maybe a cheaper one. Then followed the unprecedented reprimand by Trump and his Vice JD Vance in their holy presidential room.
Selenskyj continues to support support in Ukraine
In Ukraine, the creation was mainly accompanied by fears, the US aid could break away completely and clear the way for a victory of the Russians. Selenskyj wants to prevent this under all circumstances.
His popularity values were very high after the 2019 election, but was drastically after the first years in office. It was not until the beginning of the war when he – unlike many expected – did not escape with his wife Oleana and the two children, but said Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin, brought his approval values to new maximum values.
The 47-year-old Selenskyj, a former actor and comedian who spoke Russian to his mother tongue most of his life, repeatedly refers to a strong backing among the population. In February, with a view to surveys, a presidential research institute said that Selenskyj enjoys trust in over half of the Ukrainians. The Socis Institute, which was close to his adversary and predecessor Petro Poroshenko, determined that Selenskyj would continue to choose a good 16 percent of Ukrainians-less than ex-Armermeechef Walerij Saluschny, who came to 27.2 percent.
Critics see the country on a wrong way, some of the Selenskyj even accuse authoritarian trains. Some sit in prison, others have fled abroad, and others are silent public. In the course of the applicable law, he brought the majority of the media to his line.
The President rejects a resignation – as required in the USA. He emphasizes that only the Ukrainian people can decide. And that is firmly at his side.
