Should the Federal Government consist half of women?

Is there a risk of relapse to the 1950s in Berlin? The majority of women want half of the posts in the new federal government. But the men are against it.

First it was announced that the proportion of women in the new Bundestag fell by over two percentage points to 32.4 percent. Then a photo led to a stir that showed the Union preparation group for the talks with the SPD: At the hearty breakfast, four other men sat there next to the party leaders Friedrich Merz and Markus Söder. Many interpreted this as a bad sign of the composition of the next federal government.

Women want half of the federal government

54 percent of women in Germany is important or even very important that the next cabinet is equally filled. 44 percent is less or not at all important. Two percent do not comment. This was the result of a Forsa survey on behalf of the star. It is exactly the other way around for men: only one third is the gender parity in the next federal government important or very important. 67 percent find this less or not at all important. Since the men are more decisive in the question, there is no majority to appoint women and men in equal parts: This is important or very important because 44 percent of Germans is less important, but this is less or not at all important. One percent does not comment.

The analysis of the age groups is noticeable: only for 18 to 29 year olds is there a majority for a gender-friendly federal government (55 percent). When considering the party preference, it shows that the topic is important to the SPD voters (53 percent), the Greens (66 percent) and the left (70 percent). The AfD supporters only express 23 percent. In total, the Union is only 30 percent. It is also a minority of 36 percent for the voters of the CDU and CSU.

Before the election, Friedrich Merz had said that he would not think of an equal Federal Government. He pointed out that Christine Lambrecht (SPD), as Minister of Defense, had proven to be a "blatant misconception". The Union tips then brought two women to the exploratory group: Karin Prien (CDU) and Dorothee Bär (CSU).

The data was made by the market and opinion research institute Forsa for the star and RTL Germany raised by phone on February 27th and 28th. Database: 1006 respondents. Statistical fault tolerance: +/- 3 percentage points. This means that the survey is representative.
