The government of US President Donald Trump wants to shorten development aid and prefer to save the USAID authority. But the judiciary doesn’t quite play.
In the dispute over development aids in the billions, the Supreme US court instructed President Donald Trump’s government to pay the funds frozen by it. On Wednesday, the Supreme Court dismissed an urgent request from the government against the decision of a subordinate authority. A federal judge had had in mid -February that the exposed payments had to be continued, the Supreme Court now confirmed this decision.
The decision of the Supreme Court in Washington with the narrow majority of five against four votes in the judge’s college. The decision shows that Trump is by no means safe to support the Supreme Court, although there is a clear conservative majority and Trump had nominated three of the judges during his first term (2017-21). Two conservative judges voted the liberal representatives in the Supreme Court on Wednesday.
The decision of the Supreme Court refers to foreign aid in the volume of around $ 1.5 to two billion dollars by the US State Department and the development aid authority USAID. Trump had largely frozen the US foreign aids for 90 days immediately after his swearing-in by decree in order to subject them to an exam. All programs that do not match Trump’s “America First” policy are threatened with deletion.
