More than a million people in Hamburg were called to choose a new citizen. The Greens could continue to rule alongside the SPD. Now the next steps are emerging.
The Hamburg SPD and the Greens come together for a exploratory discussion on Friday. The State General Assembly of the Greens commissioned the party executive in the evening with the admission of the talks to which the SPD invited to the winner of the citizens’ election.
“We have a very, very good starting point to go into the conversations strongly and confidently and to make our points,” said the second mayor and Greens top candidate Katharina Fegebank. The Greens are a future party and drivers for the important social issues.
Eight representatives should negotiate for the Greens
The party wants to go into negotiations with eight representatives, as was decided at the meeting in the Wilhelmsburg district. Among other things, the party’s four senators should belong to the delegation: Science Senator Fegebank, Senator for Traffic Senator Anjes Tjarks, Environmental Senator Jens Kerstan and Justice Senator Anna Gallina.
In addition, on the side of the Greens, the two state chairman Maryam Blumenthal and Leon Alam as well as the parliamentary group leader Jennifer Jasberg and Dominik Lorenzen should negotiate.
Conversation with the CDU not yet scheduled
After meeting the previous coalition partner, the Social Democrats also want to talk to the CDU promptly. This meeting should only take place in the coming week.
Mayor Peter Tschentscher’s SPD clearly won the citizens’ election in Hamburg. After a historically bad result, the CDU increased significantly in 2020 and displaced the Greens to third place.
The SPD is therefore open to the SPD. She could continue her alliance with the Greens since 2015. But the CDU is now also entitled to a government participation.
