Like Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Vice-Chancellor Robert Habeck does not yet see the conditions for easing the Corona crisis. Instead, he advocates compulsory vaccination for all adults.
Vice Chancellor and Federal Minister of Economics Robert Habeck (Greens) advocates compulsory corona vaccination for all adults. “I believe that we need general vaccination,” he told the newspapers of the Funke media group and the French newspaper “Ouest-France”.
A corona vaccination offers good protection. “And if you get vaccinated, you not only protect yourself, but also the open society,” said Habeck. That’s why he was in favor of compulsory vaccination for everyone over the age of 18.
Merz does not want to support any of the proposals for compulsory vaccination
CDU leader Friedrich Merz, on the other hand, announced in the “Bild am Sonntag” that he did not want to support any of the proposals made so far for compulsory vaccination. Instead, he advocated a preventive vaccination law. “The most important requirements for mandatory vaccination could be decided in advance,” said Merz. If there is a new wave of corona, the obligation to vaccinate could quickly come into force with a new Bundestag resolution.
The Union faction has not yet submitted a draft for such a regulation. Merz, who is also to become parliamentary group leader in mid-February, has announced that he will present a key issues paper in the next week of the Bundestag session, starting February 14.
The first reading of the specific drafts on compulsory vaccination is expected during this week of meetings. The federal government has not submitted its own proposal on the subject. Instead, several groups of MPs have teamed up to propose drafts. They range from compulsory vaccination for everyone over the age of 18 to complete rejection of compulsory vaccination. A decision could be made in March.
