Esken warns of “broken down” explorers

Negotiations from the SPD and Union are making progress, but could also be extended to the weekend. SPD boss Esken sees some participants in the election campaign mode.

From the perspective of SPD boss Saskia Esken, negotiators make the explorations of the Union and the SPD “with strong views” negotiators. It should still be noted in one or the other that the election campaign is still in the bones, she said on Friday before the start of the next round of negotiations in Berlin. “That also depends on people.” Now everyone would have to sit down and work constructively on solutions. “Every now and then you have to remember it”.

ESKEN does not expect to be settled on Friday

“We talk about many main topics and some are easier, others are less easy. We have very different views,” said Esken. Nevertheless, the atmosphere is good and constructive and the conversations are progressing. “I am confident that we will come to a good result. That we are being finished today is not to be expected.”

However, ESKE warned against seeing the explorations as part of the coalition negotiations, this has to be “finely distinguished”. First of all, it is about exploring what opportunities there are to get together and find the necessary trust in order to then go into the depth of the topics and to work together for four years. “This is very crucial that you make sure of this before you start talking about the indentations and the decays, in the draft laws,” she emphasized.

Schwesig: Migration cannot stay that way

Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania’s Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig (SPD) also spoke of constructive discussions. Regarding the dispute asylum policy, she said: “Migration is an important topic and everyone knows that as it is, cannot stay.” To what extent the opposite red lines in the migration of SPD boss Lars Klingbeil and CSU boss Markus Söder make the conversations difficult and did not want to evaluate Schwesig on request.

When asked about possibly necessary exploratory talks, even at the weekend, Schwesig could not help but a tip against Söder: “I would have liked to use Ash Wednesday.” In turn, the SPD negotiators and CDU boss Friedrich Merz had canceled all ash mittwöd dates, while Söder adhered to his appearance in Passau.
