In the middle of the omicron wave, Israel reports a maximum number of seriously ill people with corona. The hospitals complain that the burden is high.
The number of seriously ill people in Israel in the omicron wave is higher than at any time since the beginning of the pandemic. The Ministry of Health announced on Saturday evening that 1,229 patients seriously ill with Corona were being treated in hospitals.
The number had peaked so far on January 26, 2021 with around 1185 seriously ill people.
Israeli hospitals continue to complain of high exposure. At the same time, however, there are signs that the omicron wave is gradually breaking in Israel. Corona rules in the country are to be relaxed further from Monday.
Corona numbers in Israel
According to the Ministry of Health on Saturday, 37,985 new corona cases were reported within 24 hours. On January 23, the number of new infections in Israel had reached a high of more than 85,000 since the beginning of the pandemic.
For comparison: the health authorities in Germany reported 217,815 new corona infections to the RKI within one day. Germany has about nine times as many inhabitants as Israel.
The reproduction number in Israel has been falling steadily of late and is currently less than 0.9. The so-called R value indicates how many people an infected person infects on average. If this R value is less than 1, the development in the model decreases exponentially.
The number of people in Israel who died from or were involved in a proven infection with Sars-CoV-2 is 9138.
