South Korea’s accused president from custody
South Korea’s accused President Yoon Suk Yeol has been released from prison. However, he must continue to answer in court.
South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol, accused of attempting to overthrow and abuse of power, has been released from pre -trial detention. As the South Korean news agency Yonhap reported, Yoon left the prison on Saturday after a court ordered its release the day before.
Yoon was arrested in mid -January. Despite his preliminary dismissal, the 64-year-old has to answer in two procedures: On the one hand, an office ceremony is running at the Constitutional Court, and he is also charged with a criminal trial. If Yoon is spoken guilty, there is a threat of a long -term prison sentence.
Yoon fell into a crisis
A judgment may already be expected in the office. If Yoon’s survey is confirmed, new elections would have to be scheduled within 60 days.
On December 3, Yoon, in the course of a household dispute with the opposition, proclaimed war law at short notice and thus plunged his country into a deep state crisis. At the time, he accused the opposition of being infiltrated by communist forces. There is no evidence of this.
