According to official figures, only about every fifth migrant who is obliged to leave leaves the EU. The EU Commission wants to change that. Sanctions for rejected asylum seekers also threaten.
The European Commission has submitted a plan for the faster deportation of rejected asylum seekers. Among other things, he provides to increase the pressure on migrants that do not cooperate in the return of how the Brussels authority’s prescription proposal emerges. For example, there is a risk of cutting cuts.
In addition, mutual recognition of return decisions between the EU member states should be facilitated in order to speed up the procedures. EU countries should also be given the opportunity to accommodate rejected asylum seekers in special deportation centers outside the EU.
The proposal aims to increase the efficiency of the return procedure and to create standardized rules throughout the EU. According to the Commission, only about one in five migrants, against whom there is a return decision, is currently leaving the EU. The central elements:
Obligation to cooperate: Rejected asylum seekers should be obliged to actively participate in their return. This includes, among other things, that you disclose your identity and do not provide false information. Anyone who refuses should have to expect sanctions – such as cutting benefits or a longer entry ban. For example, the reasons for detention should be expanded. On the other hand, recognition of return decisions: The Member States should generally recognize return decisions within the EU in order to accelerate the procedures. Reverse centers: rejected asylum seekers can be brought outside the EU in order to be deported from the EU. Human rights standards must be observed and implementation must be monitored. Minors and families with children are excluded.
According to the presentation of the law proposal by the Brussels authority, this must be checked and accepted by the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union. The reform is one of the central projects of the EU Commission under Ursula von der Leyen.
Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser welcomed the proposal from Brussels. “We need an effective return system at European level. A focus must be on comprehensive duties of duties and sanctions in the event of their injury,” said the SPD politician. Bureaucratic procedures would have to be avoided
