The FC Bundestag kickers see themselves as a cross -party merger in their free time. Some were no longer desired on the pitch, but successfully complained about it.
FC Bundestag may not easily exclude AfD MPs. The Berlin Regional Court declared a decision made in the general meeting of the association in March 2024 that club membership and party affiliation to the AfD are excluded and were incompatible, as the court announced.
Court: Decision violates the association’s statute
Such a decision violates the statutes of the association, according to which every active or former member of the German Bundestag can become a member. A amendment to this regulation can only be made by changing the statutes. According to the court, four AfD members of the Bundestag had sued. So far, they have not been excluded from the club. According to AfD, they were excluded from the game.
The judgment is not yet final. Appointment can be made. According to the office of club captain Mahmut Özdemir (SPD), a decision on the further procedure has not yet been made.
Most of the general assembly against AfD kicker
At a general meeting in March 2024, according to Özdemir, a majority of 29 MPs had voted against 11 no votes and 2 abstentions for not wanting to have AfD representatives in the ranks of the association in the future. “Our signal is clear that we do not tolerate members in the FC Bundestag who, as members of the AfD, make pacting with right -wing extremism or at least accept it,” said Özdemir at the time. This enables each individual AfD colleague to consider whether membership in the AfD or membership in the FC Bundestag is more important to him.
AfD MPs want to play again
The AfD MP Jörn König and Malte Kaufmann, according to their own statements, said members of the association in a joint message after the judgment: “We are happy to give our best for FC Bundestag with the eagle on the chest on the chest.”
FC Bundestag kicked since 1961
According to the club’s homepage, the first game of the association took place on April 12, 1961, then against a VIP team of the WDR. From March to November, the players meet every Tuesday in the session weeks. The home stadium is the Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn-Sportpark in Berlin.
Many former members later made a career, became ministers or even chancellors. The club calls Joschka Fischer (Greens), Franz Josef Jung (CDU), Norbert Lammert (CDU), Franz Müntefering (SPD), Peter Ramsauer (CSU), Wolfgang Schäuble (CDU), Rudolf Scharping (SPD), Andreas Scheuer (CSU), Gerhard Schröder (SPD), Klaus Töpfer (CDU) or Theodor Waigel (CSU).
