Former Chancellor Angela Merkel is not in order to title someone as a “Putin understander”. One has to allow the discourse on Russia’s interests.
Former Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) fundamentally rejects a derogatory use of the “Putin-understander” keyword.
“To understand what (Russia’s President Vladimir) does to put himself in putting himself into it is not wrong,” Merkel told the “Berliner Zeitung”. This is a fundamental task of diplomacy and something different from Putin supporters.
“There is no excuse for overturning another country. But you have to allow the discourse on the interests of Russia.” The accusation “Putin-understander” is a homicide argument.
Merkel met Putin several times
According to her perception, Putin is very concerned with recognition – “especially from America”. This thinking comes from the time of the Cold War. For Putin, the relevant sizes are not Germany or the European Union, but the USA.
Merkel was the first Chancellor of German History from 2005 to 2021. During this time she met Putin several times for negotiations.
Merkel also calls for a participation of the international partners of Ukraine in a possible peace process. “When the hour of diplomacy did not only decide President Selenskyj, but Ukraine only with its supporters,” Merkel told the “Berliner Zeitung” with a view to the Ukrainian President Wolodymyr Selenskyj. She added: “Because as friends of Ukraine, we also take the risk of Ukraine.”
Merkel, according to his own statement, found the dispute of US President Donald Trump with Selenskyj in the White House two weeks ago. “I would rather not have seen this encounter, especially if you consider that it was seen all over Russia, also by President Putin,” she said, referring to Kremlin boss Vladimir Putin.
