The Yemeni capital Sanaa is actually firm in the hands of the Huthi militia. After the US attacks and out of concern for further explosions, some leading members flee to the country.
Leading members of the Huthi-Miliz in Yemen have fled the US air attacks from the capital, which they controlled, and in rural areas. This was reported by the news channel al-Arabija financed by Saudi Arabia. High-ranking members had received the instructions to leave their houses because of the risk of further US air attacks. You should also avoid headquarters of the militia and government building in Sanaa.
The US military had massively attacked goals of the militia on the command of President Donald Trump. According to threats to new attacks in the Red Sea, Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform, US ships were to be protected with the air strikes and the freedom of shipping was to be restored.
At least 31 people were killed in Yemen and 101 more injured, reported the Ministry of Health controlled by the Huthi.
In Sanaa there was tense calm the day after the attacks. “We experienced terrible moments,” said a resident about the past night. Several window panes broke in his house. Another said that the militia wanted to “go to war and into the destruction” by attacking international shipping. “Yemen is not a country that can afford further conflicts.”
One of the most important shipping routes
The Huthi dominate large areas, especially in northern Yemen. After the outbreak of the Gaza War between Israel and Islamist Hamas in October 2023, they began to support Hamas with attacks on ships with alleged connection to Israel and Israel itself. One of the most important shipping routes leads along the coast of Yemen.
A civil war has been raging in Yemen for ten years, which triggered one of the greatest humanitarian crises worldwide in the already very poor country.
A resident of Sanaa’s called Schiham Mohammed said: “What will make these attacks (the United States) new? We have been living in war and bombings for ten years, and with what result? Nothing except destruction and more civilian victims.” Some residents who are longing for the end of Huthi rule also spoke out for the US attacks.
