Power struggle among the Greens: Three well -known politicians are applying for a rank -high office in the Bundestag – now also Claudia Roth. She knows the office.
In the Green Group there is an open power struggle for the Vice Presidency in the Bundestag. On Sunday, party veteran Claudia Roth, the incumbent Minister of Culture, also threw her hat in the ring. Previously, the previous incumbent Katrin Göring-Eckardt and former party leader Omid Nouripour had already applied to the parliamentary group. This is quite unusual, since personal details in the parliamentary group are often also clarified internally.
Göring-Eckardt justified her application with her origin from East Germany. “As a party and faction, we should not leave this part of our country to the right -wing fattening makers,” she emphasized.
In his letter, Nouripour said that his experience in different offices and his biographical background had taught him to “build bridges, bring together different perspectives and promote respectful debates – far beyond party borders”. He enters the diversity, the preservation of parliamentary traditions and a transparent, citizen -related policy. The “Spiegel” first reported on Nouripour’s application.
Claudia Roth wants to counter the AfD
Roth pointed out the challenging political situation. “It is exactly these times when everything I can bring with me and wants to bring with me can make a difference for and at this point,” she wrote. The Greens needed “another sharp -edge profile”. As a Bundestag Vice President, she wanted to take care of a powerful and confident role of parliament with the government and take powers such as the AfD that attacked democratic institutions. Roth was vice president in the Bundestag from 2013 to 2021.
A place in the Bundestag Presidium ensures prestige and influence. In addition to the president, who traditionally come from the strongest faction, the other factions each provide a vice president. However, the AfD has always been empty here since it moved into the Bundestag in 2017.
The newly elected Bundestag will come together on March 25 for its constituent session. Then the presidium is also elected. President and Vice President lead the Bundestag sessions and guards about compliance with the parliamentary order.
