Negotiations in Potsdam on the income of 2.5 million employees in Potsdam. In between there is cautious optimism. But when does a result follow?
The collective bargaining for the public service that has been running for three days has also been continued at night. An agreement was still not foreseeable, it was said in the early morning on the edge of the talks in Potsdam. Many points have not yet been discussed. An intermediate score cannot be expected this morning. Failure was also not excluded.
Negotiations are being carried out on the income and working hours of more than 2.5 million employees at the federal government and municipalities in important jobs from daycare to waste disposal. The unions Verdi and DBB civil servant association originally demanded a tariff increase of eight percent, but at least 350 euros more per month, as well as at least three additional days a year.
According to their own statements, the unions made new suggestions on Sunday evening. These went in the right direction, but would not have been enough, it said from the employers’ circles. The negotiations are conducted by the Federal Ministry of the Interior and the Association of the municipal employers’ associations VKA.
Third round started on Friday
They refer to the original demands of the unions as not affordable. The core demands of the unions alone put it at 15 billion euros a year for the municipalities. The stick point was also the demand for more days off. The employers argue, then they might have to restrict services – for example daycare opening times.
The discussions in Potsdam, which started on Friday, are already the third round of negotiations. She was actually announced until Sunday evening. If no result is achieved, a toilet would be possible. In this case, there could be warning strikes in the public service again – most recently, tens of thousands of employees in daycare centers, at airports or at the garbage disposal had temporarily laid down work. It would also be conceivable that a side explains a failure of the negotiations. Then there would be arbitration and for the time being no further warning strikes.
