Most recently, German tourists were increasingly established in the United States. Now there is a new case that of a family man. But it actually has a green card.
The reports of Germans who were put into deportation in the United States are increasing. There is, for example, the case of a tattoo artist from Berlin who was arrested in the United States after she was on vacation in Mexico and wanted to make a detour to the USA together with a friend. Because the officials apparently assumed that they wanted to work in the United States without permission because of the tattoo utensils in their luggage, they arrested them.
Also one. Despite the tourist visa, she was arrested at the airport and came into deportation. Apparently without justification. who wanted to travel from the United States to Mexico with his American fiance.
Now another case became known – and this time no tourist hit it. Because Fabian Schmidt has lived in the USA since 2007, currently in the state of New Hampshire. Since 2008 he has had a green card that enables him to live and work indefinitely in the United States.
According to “GHB”, he was arrested and interrogated from Luxembourg at Bostoner Airport after the return trip. His family did not know why, his mother Astrid, who moved to the United States with her son. She explained that her son’s partner, an American, wanted to pick him up at the airport after his arrival from Luxembourg, but waited four hours before she called the authorities. The couple has an eight -year -old child.
34-year-old German arrested at Bostoner Airport
The 34-year-old had not been treated well in custody that has lasted for over a week. It was shouted at it, he had to undress and lay on the floor. He was collapsed, after which he was brought to a hospital.
It cannot be checked whether the allegations are correct. The German Foreign Office confirmed the case, but did not give any details. The dpa news agency said it: “It is clear: We expect our partners to meet international human rights standards and to treat detainees in a decent manner.”
Media in the United States speculate that the arrest could be related to a drug offense from 2015. At that time, Marijuana was found at Schmidt, who lived in California at the time. Because she changed the legal situation to Marijuana in California a little later, the indictment was dropped. In 2022, however, there would have been a new hearing, whose invitation was not delivered to Schmidt’s new residential address, his mother said. That’s why he missed the appointment.
The authority CBP only that the officials would take “the necessary steps” when they enter if someone wants to enter with a drug offense. She did not comment on the specific case.
Since Schmidt has a green card, his case would have to be negotiated before a special migration court. The Trump government alone cannot arrange for owners of a Green Card. But she tries it. “We observe the government’s alarming trend of attacking people who have a legal immigration status,” said Gregory Chen, who is part of a merger of lawyers who deal with migration issues, the “GHB” portal.
Donald Trump has tightened United States immigration policy
It would be very unusual that Schmidt would be designated because of such a small crime as drug ownership, says Chen. But it would be possible.
Since Donald Trump has been president again, the United States has massively tightened its deportation and immigration policy.
