An end of the Russian war against Ukraine is not in sight despite the efforts of the United States. Therefore, the EU could easily make another billion for Kyiv. There are new threats from Moscow.
The Foreign Minister of the EU countries today advise in Brussels about the further military support of Ukraine. According to the German Press Agency, the EU foreign commissioner Kaja Kallas has proposed to provide the country that is attacked by Russia this year worth 20 to 40 billion euros. Member States should contribute to this according to their economic strength.
In order to prevent individual governments from possibly inserting their veto, the participation would be voluntary, as can be seen from the external service. In particular, Hungary rejects the EU military aid as senseless and prolonged war. Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s right-wing conservative government recently forced the cancellation of EU sanctions against several Russians.
Summit on Thursday
At today’s Foreign Ministers ‘meeting, there should be an exchange about Kallas’ new initiative for the first time. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrij Sybiha also takes part in the talks in Brussels. “Our priorities are Europe’s unity, strength and determination,” he wrote on the platform X. There was no time for “narrow -minded interests, petty blackmail or Trojan horses,” he said with a view to possible cross drivers within the EU, without naming them.
A political fundamental decision is not expected at the meeting. According to diplomats, there must probably be discussions at the level of the heads of state and government. These will come together for their spring summit in Brussels on Thursday.
For Germany, the support commitment requested by Kalla’s request would probably not be a problem because aids of four billion euros are already granted for this year and will soon be added another three billion euros. However, other large countries such as France, Italy and Spain would have to significantly expand their support for Ukraine if they wanted to be there according to their economic strength.
Selenskyj: have to reinforce diplomacy
Ukrainian President Wolodymyr Selenskyj meanwhile certified the Russian leadership consciously delay tactics during the conversations about a possible ceasefire. After the negotiations of the Ukrainian delegation with representatives of the United States in Saudi Arabia, Russia “stolen almost another week, a week of war that only Russia needs,” said Selenskyj in his evening video message. Kyiv will now do everything to strengthen diplomacy. “But every day it is now about defending our independence, our state and our people,” said Selenskyj.
So far, Russia is not ready for an immediate ceasefire on the USA. Ukraine has explained its fundamental willingness to do so. Russia’s President Vladimir Putin, who ordered the invasion of the neighboring country three years ago, is linked to a fire break in terms of conditions and has not yet moved away from his demands.
Ukraine is working on a “specific system of security guarantees” in the event of a ceasefire, Selenskyj reported. “This week we had a meeting of military representatives in France and we are preparing a meeting in the United Kingdom.” Selenskyj indicates the first steps towards security guarantees. But he did not give details. Both France and Great Britain consider the posting of peace troops to Ukraine. The British government is trying to “coalition the willing” that could provide other troops.
Ex-Kremlin boss threatens war against NATO
Former Russian President Dmitri Medvedev criticized the British-French plans for a possible posting of peace troops and threatened war against NATO. France’s President Emmanuel Macron and the British Prime Minister Keir “stand stupid”, Medledew wrote on the platform X. Although they were repeatedly told that peacekeepers should come from non-Nato countries, the two held on their plans.
If you want to offer “the neo-Nazis in Kiev military help, the war with NATO means”, the Vice Chair of the National Security Council continued. Medwedew recommended the two politicians in Paris and London, whom he insisted as “dirty bags” to better discuss with US President Donald Trump.
In his time as President of Russia (2008-2012), Medvedev was considered a liberal politician. Since the beginning of the war against Ukraine in February 2022, he has repeatedly noticed with sharp threats such as the use of nuclear weapons against the West.
