30 years after the planned attack – confession to court

In 1995, three men planned an attack on prison in Berlin. They flew up and fled for 30 years. Two of them confess in the process. The prospect is a life in freedom.

30 years after a failed explosive attack in Berlin, the process amounts to probation penalties for two alleged left -wing extremists at the time. At the beginning of the first day of the trial, the presiding judge Gregor Herb proposed a so -called communication between the accusers and the accused: after that a prison sentence between one year and ten months and two years, exposed to probation, was possible for the two accused if they removed confessions.

The pre -trial detention should then also be ended immediately, the judge said. The defendants could therefore leave prison. Federal prosecutor and defender agreed. The two defenders listed short confessions by Peter K. (65) and Thomas W. (62), who had returned from Venezuela to Germany after 30 years of fleeing, immersing in and exile in South America last week.

According to the lawyer Lukas Theune, discussions about the understanding now presented was preceded. Such agreements in the criminal trial are permitted in suitable cases. Above all, they should reduce the workload of the judiciary, but also offer advantages.

According to the current status, the process should take another three days of negotiations and end with the judgment in April.

According to their confession, Peter K. and Thomas W. and a complicity, who had now died in April 1995, planned the attack on the deportation prison in Berlin-Grünau. To do this, they filled more than 120 kilograms of explosives in propane gas bottles. The attack did not come about: the bombs should be reloaded in a parking lot near the detention center – but a randomly passing police patrol came in between. The men fled.
