CDU politician wants to put Nordstream into operation-Ricarda Lang replies Harsch
The Green Ricarda Lang sharply criticizes the CDU MP Thomas Bareiß-and is not alone. He had spoken out for the use of Nordstream.
Politicians from various parties have criticized the advance of repair and commissioning the Gaspipeline Nordstream II of the CDU member of the Bundestag Thomas Bareiß. Bareiß ‘party colleague Ruprecht Polenz, for example, accused him of a completely absurd assessment in the “Tagesspiegel” from Monday. The SPD foreign politician Michael Roth called the proposal “the completely wrong signal at a completely wrong time”. The Green politician Anton Hofreiter spoke of a “scandalous statement”.
Hofreiter’s party colleague Ricarda Lang spoke up to the Causa Bareiß: “Can I introduce? Thomas Bareiß. Has the energy transition as State Secretary in the Ministry of Economic Affairs and is part of the Azerbaijan affair,” she writes. “Want to go back to Russian gas. Negotiations for the CDU the coalition agreement. There is also a Moscow Connection in the CDU.”
Lang asked again: “Seriously @cdu, how can it be that someone is negotiating for you who advertises the reconstruction of Nordstream and Russian gas?”

Last week, Bareiß had suggested that the Nordstream II gas pipeline, which were currently destroyed between Russia and Germany, to put into operation after a repair and after a peace in Ukraine. “Of course, gas can flow again, maybe this time in a pipeline under American control,” said Bareiß.
Thomas Bareiß wants to reactivate Nordstream
In his view, the pipeline can “become part of a Trump deal with Russia”, the article continues. US President Donald Trump had announced that it would talk to Russian President Vladimir Putin on a possible termination of the war in Ukraine on Tuesday.

The CDU politician Polenz told the “Tagesspiegel”: “Putin’s Russia will never be able to dare again, and Trump shaked confidence in America.” He demanded that in a possible coalition agreement between the Union and the SPD to be excluded “that the North Stream pipelines will be put back into operation”.
Criticism not only from Ricarda Lang
SPD foreign politician Roth said: “I don’t know what rides my colleague Bareiß.” Anyone who speaks like this has “obviously learned nothing from recent history,” said the chairman of the Federal Foreign Committee in the outgoing Bundestag. “Russia is an acute security risk for us. (…) It is important to free yourself from Russian energy dependency.”
Anton Hofreiter from the Greens pointed out that Putin “would be rewarded for his war war” if Germany released the gas from Russia again. “For a long time, Thomas Bareiß has been standing that Germany becomes more independent of fossil energy and thus also of foreign powers. He is one of the worst opponents of renewable energies,” said Hofiter Bareiß. “The Union should do a clean cut here.”
Bareiß has been in the CDU since 1994 and has been sitting for the Christian Democrats in the Bundestag since 2005. Since then he has been dealing with energy and traffic questions. For the Union, he is currently sitting in the coalition negotiations with the SPD in the traffic, infrastructure, building and living. Bareiß was accused during the Corona pandemic to have too tight contacts to Azerbaijan and to do lobbying for the country.
