Financial package: Further urgent applications against voting remain without success

Further attempts to stop the Bundestag’s decision planned on Tuesday over the billion -dollar financial package in Karlsruhe. The Federal Constitutional Court rejected several urgent requests against the planned vote, as the highest German court announced in the evening. Among them were applications from AfD, left, FDP and the BSW.

In the consideration, the damage from the court’s point of view would be higher if an interim order was made and the special meeting of the Bundestag was stopped – but the application would not have any success. The interference with the autonomy of parliament would then be considerable. Whether the procedure of the legislative procedure has violated the rights of MPs should be clarified in the main decision regardless of the rush decision.

The court had already rejected several applications against the special meetings of the old Bundestag on Friday. They are unfounded. The Old Bundestag was not limited in its options for action until the new Bundestag collapses, the Senate emphasized. Urban requests against the design of the legislative procedure had also been unsuccessful.

Union and SPD want to decide on Tuesday with the Greens a special fund for infrastructure in the amount of 500 billion euros and a loosening of the debt brake for defense spending. The plans require changes to the Basic Law, for which two -thirds majorities are required in the Bundestag and the Federal Council.

In the new Bundestag – which must meet for the first time on March 25 at the latest – such a majority would only come about with voices from the left or the AfD. That is why the Union and the SPD had negotiated with the Greens to make the decisions with old majorities. On Friday afternoon, the three pages announced an agreement.

On Sunday, further MPs had announced an objection in Karlsruhe. They argued that the advisory period for the debt package was not sufficient. Above all, it is unconstitutional that further serious changes were presented just three days before the vote.

According to a court spokesman, the second Senate has decided on the recent decision about all the urgent requests available to date in organ dispute proceedings – i.e. from MPs and factions – to the special session. Painting at the court are still constitutional complaints.
