A French politician wants to go back the statue of Liberty, but receives a harsh rejection from the United States. In addition, the Union and SPD’s financial package is coordinated today.
Good morning dear readers,
The Statue of Liberty in the Bay of New York City is a symbol of the USAas they used to be seen. It should signal to the people who immigrated to the USA by ship: Here a free country is waiting for you in which you are welcome. Well, at the latest since Donald Trump’s new presidency, this no longer applies without restrictions. On the contrary.
The French politician Raphaël Glucksmann also sees it and demanded that the United States should give back the statue – which was once a gift from the French to the United States. Admittedly, individual politicians always demand something, so the news value of this whole posse is not particularly high. Nevertheless – a sign of our time – the message spread rapidly, We also had them on our side. And now the US government has actually commented on it.
In addition, today in a vote in the Bundestag is about the much -discussed financial package of Union and SPD.
I hope nobody calls for gifts from you today. At least not the good ones.
Have a nice day.
Statue of Freedom: US government reacts to French politicians
For many reasons, the United States should not be interested in returning the statue of freedom to France. The logistics behind it would make every moving company sweat. In fact, the 46 meter high copper statue also has a symbolic value for the USA, it is one of the landmarks of the country.
Unsurprisingly, the government of President Trump “No” says about a possible resettlement of the most famous French woman in the United States. Although it is of course not done with a simple “no” in the Trump team. Its spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt rejected the French proposal and said that “the French do not speak German today only because of the United States”. In doing so, she referred to the liberation of France by the Allies in World War II, the big club. A little more gratitude is appropriate.
For Raphaël Glucksmann, who started the Statue Statue initiative, she also had a few more flattering words left. He was just a “nameless, French politician of low rank”.
