The Bundestag has cleared the way for the Union, SPD and the Greens’ debt package. There were only three parliamentarians from the ranks of the three factions, which rejected the package with a clear no.
The required two -thirds majority for the Union, SPD and Greens’ debt package was 489 votes. This has been clearly exceeded in the Bundestag with 512 votes. Within Union, SPD and Greens, who had previously agreed on the project in tough negotiations, there were only three deviators who were right: Jan Dieren (SPD), Mario Czaja (CDU) and Canan Bayram (Greens). This emerges from a list published after the naming of the Bundestag.
Seven other MPs did not give up their vote because, for example, for illness or other reasons or consciously, they did not take part: Nezahat Baradari (SPD), Ronja Kemmer (CDU), Jens Koeppen (CDU), Tessa Ganserer (Greens), Sabine Grützmacher (Greens), Tabea Rößner (Greens), Beate Walter-Rosenheimer (Greens).
CDU politicians submit personal explanation
The CDU politician Tilman Kuban (CDU) made it clear in a personal explanation that he only approved the project with abdominal pain. His faction colleague Gitta Connemann (CDU) also indicated such an explanation. She is aware that “this debt package has a serious extent. I therefore understand criticism and worries,” it says.
AfD, FDP, left and BSW voted almost closed against the package. However, there were also seven MPs who neither voted with yes or no, but did not give their voice, such as a defense politician of the AfD parliamentary group, Rüdiger Lucassen. Former FDP politician and Federal Minister of Justice Volker Wissing voted for the debt package.
