The consequences of the agreement between US President Donald Trump and Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin are uncertain. From Washington, Moscow and Kyiv there were different interpretations about the content of the agreement and their chances of success. The only thing that is certain is that there was no 30 -day ceasefire of Trump’s agreement on a complete ceasefire – and in Ukraine there was an air alarm again on night on Wednesday.

Actually, Russia and Ukraine, according to the deal announced by Washington and Moscow, should no longer fire energy plants in the opposing country for a month. The Ukrainian President Wolodymyr Selenskyj said that his country supported the idea, but still needed information on what Trump and Putin would have agreed.

“Many elements of a peace treaty discuss”

After the supposedly “very good and productive” conversation, the US President had agreed that they had agreed on an immediate ceasefire with a view to the Ukraine energy infrastructure – “with the agreement that we will quickly work towards a complete ceasefire and ultimately at the end of this terrible war between Russia and Ukraine”. He “discussed many elements of a peace treaty with the Kremlin chief”. Putin like Selenskyj wanted an end to the war, said Trump. “This process is now in full swing, and hopefully we will end it for the benefit of humanity.”

Selenskyj was skeptical about the alleged will to peace Moscow. Most recently, representatives of the United States and Ukraine had already advised in Dschidda about the end of the Russian war of aggression. Above all, for Ukraine, it counts that the presidents of the nuclear powers do not make any disadvantageous stipulations. Selenskyj therefore criticized that Putin and Trump negotiated their affairs without the participation of Ukraine.

Putin demands an auxiliary stop or not?

In a program on Fox News, Trump answered the moderator’s question whether Putin had asked for an immediate stop for all help for Ukraine on the phone: “No, he didn’t. We didn’t talk about help.” It remained unclear what kind of support he referred to – whether it was about military, financial or humanitarian aid.

After the two presidents’ phone call, the Kremlin had announced that Putin had named a number of demands on the Russian side in the conversation. It is essential, for example, that the West will no longer deliver any further weapons and intelligence information to Ukraine. It is also known that Putin wants to prevent Ukraine and soldiers from the military alliance in the neighboring country.

The conflict parties were most likely to find each other in the three years of the war when they were exchanged. Selenskyj confirmed Russian information that both sides today want to exchange 175 prisoners of war again. Russia also agreed to relieve 23 heavily wounded Ukrainian soldiers.

Russian drone attacks at night

After Trump’s phone call with Putin, there was also a long way to talk about peace. The Russian army once again attacked Ukraine with swarms of fight drones at night. “With this nightly attack, Russia is once again destroying our energetics, our infrastructure, the normal life of the Ukrainians,” Selenskyj wrote on the platform X. “The fact that this night is no exception shows that Putin has to continue to put pressure on peace.”

The US government must understand that Putin, by all means, attempts to put Ukraine under pressure, said Selenskyj. “Putin wants to carry out several offensive towards Saporischschja, in the east towards Kharkiw and Sumy.
