The arrest of the Istanbul Mayor has caused outrage for many in Turkey. You also express your anger in social media posts. Some are now being taken.

The Turkish police are investigating several social media users after the arrest of the Mayor of Istanbul Ekrem Imamoglu because of their contributions. 37 people have already been “caught”, the Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya wrote on the platform X. A total of 261 account holders were determined for “provocative contributions”, 62 of them abroad. The remaining people are still going on.

For example, the users are accused of “impacting the public for hatred and hostility” and “incorporation to inspect a crime”.

The Mayor of Istanbul and promising Erdogan challenger Imamoglu was arrested on Wednesday morning – a few days before his party was supposed to choose Chp as the presidential candidate. This had caused great outrage not only in oppositional in the country. Users also breathe their anger on the net.

In total, more than 18 million contributions on X have been published on the topic by the morning, according to the Interior Minister.

In the meantime, social media were still only available to a limited extent. The cyberrecht activist Yaman Akdeniz, known in Turkey, wrote on X in the morning, the bandwid throttling of the platforms. Since Wednesday, users and media have reported only partially and barely accessible portals.
