Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock is drawn to the United Nations in New York. A step that is criticized for various reasons – also by the German press.
Annalena Baerbock is still foreign minister until the new government is. What she will do afterwards is now also clear: The Greens politician is to take over the chair of the UN General Assembly in New York.
The change causes criticism for various reasons. On the one hand, Baerbock displaces the experienced diplomat Helga Schmid, which was actually intended for this post. On the other hand, she recently announced that she wanted to be politically shorter because of her family. The Foreign Minister is also accused of “self -sufficiency”.
The German press also sees the circumstances of Baerbock’s next career step critically. At the same time, the Greens also get support.
This is how the press comments on Annalena Baerbock’s plans
“Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung”: “A long-standing, experienced diplomat should become President of the UN General Assembly-and is now withdrawn at least for the public without a professional reason. Critics are rightly encountered. The question of the reconciliation of this decision with feminist foreign policy is unnecessary: women are just as capable of using their elbows as men.”
“Süddeutsche Zeitung”: “This change does not throw a good light on Baerbock. Not diplomatic-and certainly not politically. Without further ado, Baerbock pushed the original German candidate for the post of the President of the UN General Assembly for one year. (…) Your handling of one of the most qualified diplomans in the country is reserved. Career, but the price is high. “
“Picture”: “Anyone who is committed to women on all trips, in every speech and emphasized again and again that women have to hold together, lets a diplomat who has already prepared for the job. This is absolutely unsolidarious and is not at all. That ministers are not only obtained after their career and in public, but the proof is provided that it is not about qualifications, but is not devastating for the public View of politicians.
“Mirror”: “If it is only the men who leave their family and fatherly responsibility as soon as the career calls, the world remains as it is – a planet that is dominated by patriarchal dominance. So that something changes, more female selfishness is needed. Hardly anyone lives out in Germany than the first woman at the top of the external office. And that’s a good thing!”
“Nordkurier”: “Ellenbow use to climb the professional career ladder or get lucrative jobs is part of the business-but please without the kitschy and subsequently unworthy number with ‘the private price’. Anyone who has followed Baerbock’s career in the past few years should not be surprised if you are back in the freestyle of the Green Chancellor 2029 in the Berlin Politian game in Berlin has.”
“T-Online”: “With the new UN-JOB, Baerbock would actually step out of the spotlight, but it would not be a step back. Family life should always be a private shelter, also for politicians. But that Baerbock publicly addressed this emotional level as a reason for her retreat could now fall on her feet. It was a communicative mistake.
“Volksstimme”: “Ms. Baerbock has obviously sat in a fat bowl that is great like a swimming pool. The shameless favor of party sizes and other staff of a government was not limited to the Greens. When Gerhard Schröder mutated into Russian oil lobbyists in 2005, the excitement was rightly great. Schröder was still concerned.”
“New Osnabrücker Zeitung”: “Opposition is crap, Franz Müntefering already knew. But it always leaves a bad impression of picking up the raisins after a lost choice. The intended office in New York is namely: limited to one year, well endowed and with rather representative tasks – at least as tedious factual work on the opposition bench. This decision make sense – the political signal that Baerbock sends with it is not enough for her. “
“Reutlinger General-Anzeiger “: “It is not reprehensible that Baerbock will make a career. Not even that she exploits her political contacts for it. It is also normal for you to get one position, for which others would have been better qualified. However, the personnel have a tasty. The Greens have criticized post -shachers and cousin reading at the Union for many years. On green morals.
