The Federal Government checks whether there are three recent cases of Germans who were taken into deportation when attempts to enter the United States, individual cases or a change in US immigration policy. “I have not yet developed a very clear picture,” said the spokesman for the Federal Foreign Office in Berlin.

In the case of the German Fabian Schmidt, who lived in the USA, who had recently been custody when entering Boston, the German Consulate General in Boston was in contact with the person concerned, his relatives and the local authorities.

The 34-year-old Fabian Schmidt, according to his relatives, has been in a detention center for more than a week in Boston when entering the United States. The background of the case are unclear. According to his mother, Schmidt has lived in the United States since 2007 and has an unlimited residence permit with the so-called GreenCard, which is legally equal to him with US citizens.

Schmidt accuses the authorities of being treated poorly by them. Among other things, he was shouted at the airport at the survey and had to move out. He got sick in custody and came to a clinic where he was tied to bed. The allegations could not be verified independently.

The US Department of Homeland Protection did not initially answer a request from the dpa news agency.

The case around Fabian Schmidt is the recent incident for Germans who have been put into deportation in the United States. According to the news portal “GHB”, he was arrested and interrogated after the return trip from Luxembourg at Bostoner Airport. His family did not know why, his mother Astrid, who moved to the United States with her son. She explained that her son’s partner, an American, wanted to pick him up at the airport after his arrival from Luxembourg, but waited four hours before she called the authorities. The couple has an eight -year -old child.

Media in the United States speculate that the arrest could be related to a drug offense from 2015. At that time, Marijuana was found at Schmidt, who lived in California at the time. Because the legal situation to Marijuana in California changed a little later, the indictment was dropped. In 2022, however, there would have been a new hearing, whose invitation was not delivered to Schmidt’s new residential address, his mother said. That’s why he missed the appointment.
