For 491 days, Eli Sharabi Geisel was the Hamas, who murdered his daughters, his wife and brother. Before the UN Security Council, he described all the horror of the detention period.
The Israeli ex-theisel Eli Sharabi reported on the UN Security Council in New York about his time under the violence of Hamas. The reason for the security council’s consultations on the stop of the aid deliveries in the Gaza Strip by Israel, which had been criticized many times.
“I know that you often discuss the humanitarian situation in Gaza,” said Sharabi, “but let me tell you as an eyewitness what happened to the help: Hamas stole it.”
what has long been known. That the Islamist terrorist organization systematically stolen auxiliary deliveries and foods and withholding many helpful Palestinians. “I saw Hamas terrorists carried boxes with UN and Unrwa logos in the tunnels. Dozens and dozens of boxes that were paid by their governments,” said Sharabi to the representatives of the 15 member states of the Security Council.
He was in captivity of Hamas for 491 days
For the hostages it was the bare horror. “You ate many of these meals from the UN right in front of our eyes and we never got anything.” His most urgent sentence was: “Remember that Hamas eats like kings while the hostages are hungry.”
Sharabi, who was captured deep under earth for 491 days, also spoke about the physical and mental agony. “The chains in which they put me cut into my skin – from the moment I arrived until the moment I was released. Betting and pleading became my existence.”
Sharabi was released on February 8, 2025. Only then did he learn that Hamas had murdered his wife Liann and the daughters Noiya, 16 years old, and Yahel, 13. He lost 30 kilograms of weight during captivity and only weighed about 44 kilograms when he was released.
Eli Sharabi: Treated worse than an animal
“I was treated worse than an animal,” said Sharabi. Nobody in Gaza helped him. “The civilians saw us suffering and they cheered our kidnappers. They were definitely involved.” The International Red Cross and the United Nations did not come to his aid.
He also described psychological torture by Hamas. A few days before his release, Hamas fighter had told him that his older brother Yossi had been killed during captivity. The brother died during an Israeli air raid, the army announced. His body is still in the hands of the Hamas. During the hostage handover, which Hamas staged as perverse propaganda show, the terrorists Sharabi forced to say that he was looking forward to seeing his wife and daughter again.
At the end of his lecture, he appealed to the Security Council to work for the release of the remaining 59 hostages. About half of it should be dead. “No excuses, no more delays. Brings them all home.”
