Israel’s government voted for the dismissal of secret service chief Ronen Bar. The Supreme Court has now issued an injunction against the decision.
The Supreme Court in Israel has initially suspended the dismissal of the head of the domestic secret service decided by the government. A judge issued an injunction, which, according to the court, applies until a hearing has taken place in the matter. This should happen by April 8 at the latest.
Several groups, including politicians in the opposition, had submitted petitions against the government’s decision.
Israel’s government had approved the highly controversial dismissal of the domestic secret service manager at night despite the mass protests. Ronen Bar will end his mandate on April 10, unless a successor will be appointed before, the office of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said.
In an investigation by the domestic secret service Schin Bet about mistakes that the Hamas massacre in Israel made possible on October 7, 2023, Netanyahu had not gone away well. In addition, Schin Bet investigates presumably illegal relationships between familiar Netanyahus with Qatar. The country is one of the supporters in indirect conversations with Hamas, but is also considered a supporter of the terrorist organization.
