London: Putin decree urges Ukrainians to pass the Russian passport

Russia controls the Crimean Peninsula and large parts of East Ukraine. Great Britain accuses Putin of a Russification in the illegally occupied areas.

According to British information, Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin exerts pressure on Ukrainians in Russia and in occupied areas in their home country so that they accept Russian citizenship. As the British Ministry of Defense writes in its regular secret service update for the Ukraine War, Putin has signed a decree this week that obliges Ukrainian citizens living in the affected territories to “regulate its legal status by September 10, 2025 or to leave the area.

“Putin’s decree most likely has the purpose of force Ukrainian citizens who reject Russian passes and citizenships to leave the Russian Ukrainian area,” says the Ministry.

Putin and the Russian leadership continued to pursue a Russification policy in the illegally occupied area in Ukraine. This is part of their many years of efforts to wipe out Ukrainian culture, identity and statehood. The Ministry pointed out that Russia, which had been incorporated over a decade ago, and the regions of Luhansk, Donetsk, Saporischschja and Cherson, which are annexed in 2022, regarded as part of Russia in 2022.
