Trump and Greenland: Reports: Ms. von Vance travels to Greenland

According to media reports, the Greenland, which is courted by US President Donald Trump, will again receive a visit from Washington in the coming days. A few months after a sensational short trip by the president’s son Donald Trump Jr., the wife of US Vice President JD Vance, Usha Vance, as well as Trump’s national security advisor Mike Waltz should plan a trip to the largest island in the world.

As the Grönland newspaper “Sermitsiaq” reports, Usha Vance only wants to travel to the capital Nuuk and then attend a traditional dog sled race in Sisimiut on Saturday. The acting Greenland foreign representative Vivian Motzfeldt confirmed the visit to the newspaper “Jyllands Post”. However, she does not know the exact travel schedule or the program, said Motzfeldt.

On the supposedly private journey, the Vice Presidential Gesse is to receive Trump’s security advisor Waltz. In addition to “Jyllands Post”, this also reported the Danish radio broadcaster DR and TV 2, citing anonymous sources. Accordingly, the US government asked for official meetings with Danish and Greenland representatives, which was, however, rejected. So far, the trips have not been officially confirmed on the US side.

Trump has always been talking about taking control of Greenland for months. He justified this with national or international security. Against this background, his son Donald Trump had traveled to the Greenland capital Nuuk for a day at the beginning of January.

On the island belonging to the Danish kingdom, politics and the majority of the population do not think of becoming a US territory. A week ago, hundreds of people in Nuuk and elsewhere protested against Trump’s takeover plans.

Shortly after a parliamentary election, Greenland politics is currently in the process of forming a new government. On April 1st, local elections will also take place on the island. “It is clear that the Trump camp does not respect our right to self-determination without interference from the outside,” criticized a Greenland MP in the Danish Parliament, Aaja Chemnitz, on Facebook.
