South Korea: Court rejects the head of office from head of government

Prime Minister Han Duck Soo will now take over the official business of the suspended President Yoon Suk Yeol. The judgment about Yoon’s political fate will be expected shortly.

South Korea’s Constitutional Court rejected the elevation of the head of government suspended in the course of the state crisis. The 75-year-old Han will return to his office as Prime Minister and will also take over the official business of the suspended President Yoon Suk Yeol.

On December 3, Yoon, in the course of a household dispute with the opposition, proclaimed war law at short notice and thus plunged his country into a deep state crisis. At the time, he accused the opposition of being infiltrated by communist forces. There is no evidence of this.

In the course of the state crisis, the MPs voted on December 27 for an office survey Hans. Among other things, the conservative politician was accused of acting as a accomplice when imposing the law of war by President Yoon. Han himself always denied this.

The constitutional court will shortly decide on the ceremony of the suspended president Yoon. If Yoon’s survey is confirmed by the constitutional court, new elections would have to take place within 60 days after the verdict. Otherwise, Yoon would return to the presidential office.

The judges of the Constitutional Court may be expected to announce their judgment this week. However, an official date for the judgment has not yet been determined.
