Ukraine war
USA will start new discussions with Russia in Saudi Arabia
The Russian attack war in Ukraine lasts more than three years. In Saudi Arabia, the United States started new discussions. After a meeting with Ukraine, one with Russia follows today.
After a meeting with representatives of Ukraine, the United States is now starting its new discussion in Saudi Arabia about a limited ceasefire with Russia. Afterwards, the US negotiators want to explore possible ways to a peace solution in Ukraine in a form of pendulum diplomacy. According to a report by the “New York Times”, there could be further discussions with Ukraine depending on the course. The US mediators negotiate with the representatives of Moscow and Kiev, on the way to peace.
The Ukraine rated the first talks on Sunday evening in the Saudi capital Riad. The Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umjerow wrote on Facebook: “The conversations were constructive and informative – we discussed important questions, especially in the energy sector.” President Wolodymyr Selenskyj received the Ukrainian delegation to achieve an “honorable and permanent peace” for Ukraine and all over Europe.
Avoiding attacks against energy plants planned
Negotiations in Saudi Arabia should take possible steps to take a ceasefire. The first measure is planned to do without attacks against energy systems, whereby Ukraine also wants to protect other infrastructure objects. This limited fire break was fundamentally off the phone between Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump, but without details on implementation. Finally, the two warring parties covered with massive drone attacks.
According to Ukrainian representation, Riad is initially concerned with technical questions. There would be suggestions for the protection of energy systems and critical infrastructure on the agenda, said Umjerow. “Today we work through a number of complex technical questions – our delegation belong to both energy experts and military representatives of the naval and air forces.” From a Russian perspective, Riyadh is also about an initiative for safe shipping in the Black Sea, in the room the US proposal for a fire break for the water.
USA represented with several teams in Riad
Selenskyj wrote on X: “Our team works completely constructively and the discussion is very useful. The work of the delegations continues.” The Ukrainian President added: “But regardless of what we talk to our partners about, we have to urge Putin to actually arrange a stop of the attacks: whoever caused this war must end it.”
The Ukrainian delegation is led by Umjerow. Russia will be represented in Riyadh by foreign politician Georgi Karassin from the Federation Council and secret service Sergej Besseda, a confidante of Kremlin chief Putin. The United States is represented in Saudi Arabia with several teams, which, in addition to the special envoy Keith Kellogg, should also include US security consultants Mike Waltz.
Selenskyj accuses Russia extension of the war
Selenskyj accused Moscow of pulling the war length. Russia had brought about the war and continued it, Selenskyj said in his evening video message. “Since March 11th there has been a proposal for unconditional ceasefire, and the attacks have long since stopped, but it is Russia that continues all.”
Selenskyj referred to series of Russian drone attacks in the past few days. “If no pressure is exerted on Russia, they will continue to despise real diplomacy in Moscow and continue to destroy life,” he accused the Russian leadership.
US President Trump claims to end the war as soon as possible. The chances of it were good, he said before the meetings. The US specialist Steve Witkoff, who had hit Putin in Moscow in the past few weeks, said: “I have the feeling that he (Putin) wants peace.” The Kremlin, however, dampened expectations. Spokesman Dmitri Peskow said: “We are only at the beginning of this path.”
Russian drone attacks on Kyiv
The Kremlin does not seem to be in a hurry with a view of a ceasefire. On the phone call with Trump a few days ago, Putin had brought his well -known arguments against a general ceasefire. It is unclear how such a break of fire along the entire front line should be monitored and secured, he said. The Kremlin also provided two conditions. Accordingly, the West may no longer deliver any further weapons and intelligence information to Kyiv.
Shortly before the new explorations of the warring parties, a possible path to peace, a serious Russian drone attack occurred in Kiev during the night of Saturday. Three people died, including a five -year -old child.
